Alberta This Week

What to Expect

With the deadline now passed for UCP memberships sales, the leadership campaigns will each receive the full members’ list this week. Persuading members will be the campaigns’ singular focus from now until October 3. Mail-in ballots must be received October, while in-person voting and the announcement of the winner is on October 6.

The Week That Was

The Alberta government has successfully reduced almost 60 per cent of unnecessary red tape at Alberta Innovates, resulting in saving $1.2 billion.

In another effort to reduce red tape, the government announced a new pilot project located in Alberta’s industrial heartland to stimulate investment and create more jobs. The Designated Industrial Zone will work toward ensuring the competitiveness and efficiency of the industry through the following measures:

  • addressing application backlogs;
  • increasing efficiency and transparency; and
  • supporting economic development without sacrificing environmental outcomes.
