British Columbia This Week

What to Expect

There’ll be some posturing in Surrey as Premier Horgan called a byelection for Surrey South. The seat was left vacant after Liberal MLA Stephanie Cadieux resigned to become Canada’s first Chief Accessibility Officer. The election will be held September 10 and will be contested by Green candidate Simran Sarai, NDP candidate Pauline Greaves, and Liberal candidate Elenore Sturko. Having only been created in 2015, the relatively new riding had been held exclusively by the Liberals (the party won with 51 per cent of the vote in 2017 and 47 per cent in 2020).
