British Columbia This Week

What to Expect

Announcements for funding that will likely be in Budget 2023 are starting to come out and will be the talk of B.C. this week.On Friday, Premier Eby announced a $1 billion Growing Communities Fund, which will be divided amongst all 188 municipalities based on population and growth.

The Legislature is also now in session, with the budget set to be released on February 28. This will provide plenty to discuss as the government works to get bills through, although the most contentious will come once the budget is introduced.

The Week That Was

September 30 will now be dedicated as a statutory holiday for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Building on the initial investment of $4.5 million in February 2021, the Government of B.C. has committed an additional $4.5 million for a second round of the Rural Business and Community Recovery Initiative.

The provincial government’s Growing Communities Fund will fund all 188 of B.C.’s municipalities and regional districts with a combined one-time investment of $1 billion.
