Saskatchewan

Western Canada’s only outdoor farm expo kicks off today. Ag in Motion gives participants a chance to see the newest agriculture technology in the field, check out innovative new products, and connect with other farmers and industry. As it does every year, the three-day event will take place at Discovery Farm Langham just outside of Saskatoon. Thirty thousand people are expected to attend.

Manitoba

In neighbouring Manitoba, the southern portion of the province is expecting between 25 to 150 millimetres of rain. An overland flood warning has been issued to all areas south of Highway 1 and Highway 16.

The Week That Was

Saskatchewan

On July 13, public health officials confirmed Saskatchewan’s first case of monkeypox; a rare and infectious viral disease characterized by a fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a widespread rash.

On July 15, public health officials confirmed a second Saskatchewan resident had contracted monkeypox. Officials have stated that the second case is not epidemiologically linked to the first case, announced on July 13, and the risk in Saskatchewan remains low.

Saskatchewan is expanding coverage for a cystic fibrosis (CF) medication called Trikafta. Starting August 1, Trikafta will be available to CF patients ages six and older who meet the medical criteria.

The federal government is providing $18.3 million from the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) to four projects in Saskatchewan to improve railway efficiency. Details on the four projects can be found here.

Manitoba

The Government of Manitoba has launched a 60-day consultation period on a draft regulation that would establish a capital planning region. The region includes Winnipeg and 17 surrounding municipalities, with a mandate to work together to prepare a regional development plan.

The Manitoba government is investing an additional $1.8 million in new projects under the Teachers’ Idea Fund, bringing the total projects approved to date to just over $7.8 million.

The Government of Manitoba has launched the second intake of the Municipal Service Delivery Improvement Program, which provides funding for municipalities and planning districts to find ways to improve services and find efficiencies. The deadline to apply for funding is September 5.
